Accurate treatment starts with accurate diagnosis. Our in-house vascular ultrasound lab lets your specialist truly understand the problem and plan your treatment in the same clinic, often in the same visit.

What a vascular ultrasound shows
Vascular ultrasound is a painless, non-invasive test. There are no needles and no radiation.
A technologist moves a small probe over the skin while sound waves build a live image of the blood flow underneath.
For vein and circulation concerns, ultrasound helps us:
- Map venous reflux. We can see which valves have failed and where blood is pooling instead of returning to the heart. This is the root cause behind most varicose veins and venous symptoms.
- Check for blood clots. Ultrasound is the standard test for deep vein thrombosis and helps rule out clots before treatment.
- Assess circulation and healing. For patients with wounds or poor healing, imaging shows whether blood flow is the underlying issue.
- Guide treatment. Several of our procedures, including ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy, are performed using live imaging for precision.
Who reads your scan
Imaging is only as useful as the people interpreting it. At Windflower, your ultrasound is read by specialists with subspecialty training in venous and vascular disease, including our vascular surgeon, radiologists, phlebologists, and a vascular medicine and thrombosis specialist. They work from the same facility and the same current clinical guidelines, so the diagnosis and the plan stay connected.

What to expect at your appointment
Exam length is typically 45 to 60 minutes, though more extensive veins, reflux, or blood clots can mean more imaging and a longer visit.
Wear or bring a swimsuit, or flexible, loose-fitting shorts. Skip lotion on your legs beforehand: it makes the gel slide rather than glide. Eat something before you arrive, since this helps prevent lightheadedness during the exam.
You'll lie down while the technologist applies a warm gel and moves the probe across the skin, examining from groin to ankle, front and back. You may also be asked to stand for part of the exam, since standing shows how your veins behave under normal pressure.
No referral is required, and most patients return to their day immediately afterward.
